About Youth Music

Early years music making is one of Youth Music's five policy priorities for 2005 - 2010, with the aim of ensuring every child under five years of age has access to music-making opportunities.

Youth Music wants every child to begin a life-long musical journey from the earliest possible moment, and is targeting the 0 - 5 age range as this is the key time to embed music in the lives of children. Youth Music has pledges to invest £9.4million to fund music-making activities for 0 - 5 year olds from 2005 - 2010 and is aiming to reach a minimum of 100,000 children.

During this period, Youth Music aims to fund the training of 600 early years practitioners and 300 musicians, enabling them to lead music-making activities with this age group. To support this, Youth Music is publishing "Tuning into Children", a new training handbook that will offer a set of guiding principles for early years practitioners and music specialists who want to collaborate on devising new programmes of activity, or enhance their existing music practice.

Youth Music is also campaigning to encourage parents to involve their young children in music making, both in local groups and at home.

Youth Music is a UK-wide charity that funds and facilitates music-making opportunities for under 18 year olds, especially those who would otherwise not get the chance. Visit http://www.youthmusic.org.uk
