Catherine Pluygers
Catherine was born in Colchester in 1955. She studied the oboe at school from the age of nine and continued to study at the Royal College of Music with Peter Graeme, and later with Ray Still (USA) at the Banff Centre of Fine Arts Canada. She has a MMUS from the University of London and began her career as a freelance orchestral player for BBC Radio Orchestra. Catherine went on to develop particular interests including music by women composers, improvised music, and music for oboe and organ. From 1985-95 she ran a freelance wind orchestra and is currently running a wind festival devoted to new music. Recent tours as a soloist have taken in Norway, India, the USA, Hong Kong and North Korea.
Youth Music
Youth Music exists to facilitate and fund high quality and diverse musical experiences for young people up to the age of 18, particularly those living in areas of social and economic need.
