Juldeh Camara

Gambian musician Juldeh Camara played the riti (a one-stringed fiddle from the Gambia), on Fast Cheetah, Cheetah Lullaby and Flying Home. Juldeh is a Fulani griot (hereditary musician) who, from the age of five learned riti from his blind father, Serif, a master of the instrument.

After working with many musicians across West Africa and Europe, including Gambia's legendary band Ifang Bondi and Norwegian guitarist Knut Reiersrud, he recorded a CD with Justin Adams 'Soul Science'. The recording won great critical acclaim and led to the pair winning a BBC Radio 3 'Planet' Award for World Music in 2008, in the Culture Crossing category. Throughout the summer of 2003 Juldeh worked at The National Theatre, London, making music for the acclaimed play Elmina's Kitchen by Kwame Kwei-Armah.
