Baobab tree

Cheetah flops down and purrs in the shade of the Baobab, a tree found in the Africa Savannas.  Baobabs are versatile trees that can live for several thousand years. For nine months of the year, the Baobab has no leaves and looks as though it has been planted upside down.  Its cork-like bark is used to make rope and paper, its leaves are eaten and its fruit can be made into a drink. Birds nest in its branches, baboons eat the fruit, bush babies and fruit bats drink nectar from its flowers and elephants have been known to eat a whole tree. They are so large that hollow Baobabs have been used as a shop, a jail and a bush shelter in the past!
