Oak tree

Oak tree
Chiff Chaff and Chick Pea live in an Oak Tree. With its distinctive wavy edged leaves and acorns, the Oak tree is probably the most common tree in England. The English Oak supports the largest number of life forms of any tree in the UK, providing homes for up to 284 kinds of insect! Its acorns are buried by squirrels to eat in the winter months. Forgetful squirrels help maintain the oak tree population as buried acorns grow into new oak trees. The largest oak tree in England is in Sherwood Forest Country Park in Nottingham and is 10 metres wide. To view a film of the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, go to www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham.
