Early years radio show wins Practical Pre-School Award
The eight-minute radio programme entitled 'A Basketful of Songs' has won a prestigious Silver Award in the Practical Pre-School Awards 2007. The show, which contains a series of songs and actions for babies and toddlers, has been airing on FUN radio.
Teachers and child-care professionals tested the radio show out, with children in nursery and early-years settings. They found the new and traditional songs performed by Anna Scantlebury and Abi Cotton, interesting and amusing. The children also enjoyed helping each other to find their favourite excerpts, and worked well together.
Anna Scantlebury and Abi Cotton, who both run Piccolo Music, created the radio show. "We're absolutely delighted with this important recognition by fellow professionals in early learning and care," said Anna Scantlebury. "Many of the songs are written by us, and we are thrilled that they have proved so popular."
Susan Stranks, children's radio pioneer and a founding director of FUN radio, commented that: "sharing music, movement and rhyme from our earliest years helps to develop imagination, confidence and the basic skills needed for school and society. Radio can be key to this".
Mark Allen, whose publishing company owns the Practical Pre-School Magazine said, "This is an innovative and effective way to reach large numbers of children with high quality material that enriches their lives and enhances their development".
The series is co-produced by Serious Music Business and www.piccolomusic.co.uk, and can be heard on weekdays at 11.15am on FUN radio.
FUN radio has also been nominated for a BT Digital Music Award for Best Radio Station. FUN radio is available on DAB digital radio in London, Essex, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Bristol, Dorset Cardiff, Kent and Sussex; Sky Digital 0112 and Virgin Media (in selected areas).
