MusicLeader London is running a one day course in the Kodaly method in practice on the 14th June 2007. The workshop will give an introduction to the Kodaly Principles of Music Education in Early Years.

The Kodaly approach focuses on learning musicianship through singing using the folk songs of the nation. The "tools" of the method (tonic solfa and rhythm solfa) will be explored with reference to material suitable for young children. The Kodaly method is child centred and taught in a logical, sequential manner:

The children learn, all the musical concepts (unconsciously at first) through playing and singing musical games and rhymes. Later, the musical concepts are made conscious and then reinforced. Great emphasis is placed on developing the child's inner hearing, intonation and musical memory. By the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

  • have a basic knowledge of the Kodaly principles of music education<//font><//font>
  • understand how these concepts relate to music in early years<//font><//font>
  • understand how to choose appropriate repertoire to suit young voices<//font><//font>
  • understand how to develop children's musical skills from an early age<//font><//font>
  • understand how singing games can support holistic development. <//font><//font>
  • understand how to structure a successful music programme based on the Kodaly approach

This session will be a practical workshop and will focus on singing games, rhymes and holistic development through singing.
