Make Chatter Matter

 

Make Chatter Matter is I CAN's campaign  to ensure that children's communication development is made a national priority. Communication is the foundation life skill. It affects our ability to learn, form relationships and make friends. Children with speech and language difficulties get left out and left behind.
In the UK 1 in 10 children have a communication disability. In disadvantaged areas, upwards of 50 per cent of children are arriving at primary school without the typical communication skills they need to learn. Poor communication skills cost the individual, cost families and cost the nation.
To mark the launch of this three year campaign, I CAN initiated a series of exciting media events. Make Chatter Matter Month played host to activities and events to raise media awareness on the importance of children's communication. Highlights included a high profile parliamentary reception, Chatter Matters DVD to help families support their children's communication development & the epic Chatterbox Challenge sponsoring children sing-a-longs across the UK.  I CAN's media coverage has reached an estimated audience of 80 million.
So far 59 organisations, including Youth Music and many high profile individuals are on board this coalition to bring about a change in children's policy development. I CAN hope to secure 100 members by May. Watch this space for more exciting updates on Make Chatter Matter.
