I'm a Caterpillar
This is one of the most popular songs written by Piccolomusic, who specialise in songs and singing for babies and under fives in the North East of England. It can be used in so many ways that children of all ages love it, and of course the possible links with Eric Carle's book make it a favourite with carers and Early Years practitioners.
The song can be sing as a hand rhyme, with the advantage of being able to 'share ' the actions between adult and child. It can also be sung so that children can be the caterpillar themselves and turn into butterflies, as illustrated in the page taken from PiccoloMusic's picture songbook, Wriggle and Giggle. The resource sheet offers more ideas for linked activities, and different ages.
To listen to the song, simply download the mp3 file below. You can also download the resource sheet to find out more about how children can interact with the song through actions.
